Specifically, it attempted to verify the effectiveness of cross-curricular teaching in two practices with an interdisciplinary approach combining the Japanese language class and the arts and crafts class. In the first practice, children used language and paintings as learning materials and voluntarily advanced their learning activities from two-dimensional (surface) static motions to four-dimensional (including space and time) dynamic motions. The second practice was structured based on the first practice, with a focus on expressing motions in four dimensions. Consequently, a significant difference was found between the results of the pre-test and those of the post-test of matching language and paintings regarding people’s motions and, thus, the effectiveness of the lesson was confirmed. The above two practices revealed that cross-curricular teaching, combining the Japanese language class and the arts andcrafts class, had an effect on the development of competency regarding human understanding.
