Two sets of data have been analysed, with the first involving descriptions of plans for holidays and the second involving self-introductions, with both types being written either as homework or as part of an end of term exam. Many sentences are very short as students appear to have aimed to play it safe and just produce slight variations of the sentences they had found in their textbooks.
