          <datacite:description xml:lang="en" descriptionType="Abstract">This study summarizes previous studies on environmental configurations by caregivers in kindergartens, nursery schools, and early childhood education and care certified child care centers, and identifies trends and issues for theorizing and structuring environmental configurations that produce spontaneous activities by children. From the collected literature, I categorized the research into “Issues of ‘environmental configuration’ in childcare,” “Spatial and physical environment in childcare settings,” “Environment and Concept Formation in Infancy,” “Relationship between caregivers’ environmental configuration and children’s behavior,” “Approaches from affordance theory,” and “educational moment” examined trends in these areas. The results indicated that in childcare practice, it is necessary for caregivers to infuse educational values into the environment, create situations that are meaningful for children’s development, and reconstruct the environment by creating an environment appropriate to the aims and content of the childcare program. In doing so, it was suggested that viewing at environmental composition from the perspective of the “educational moment” can lead to the verbalization and structuring of environmental composition as “education through the environment,” which is the basis of early childhood education and care.</datacite:description>
