In this study, basic data were collected on how three children in the elementary school division of a special support school for students with intellectual disabilities viewed artwork. The method employed was gaze measurement, which focuses on features that are important when appreciating works of art, such as color differences, shapes, motifs, methods of expression, and composition. We investigated the characteristics of children's visual cognition from five perspectives. The children completed the task without a demonstrated influence of the nature of the colors, shapes, methods of expression, or handedness, and these tendencies tended to become fixed. In all of the tasks, the influence of formative elements was small, and biases in individual viewpoints were noticeable. The experience of completing the task did not encourage subsequent viewing, and there was a tendency to subjectively perceive and imagine the object based on experience and preferences.
