| 内容記述 | 機械翻訳（MT）を取り入れた外国語の学習や教育の開発を考えるためには、MTの使用の利点と欠点を理解し、学習者がどのような意識で MTを使用しているかを把握する必要がある。本研究では大学 1 年生174名を対象に、1）MT使用における危惧、2）MTの有用な使用方法、3）母語を介した学習の捉え方、4）熟達度によるMTの使用方法の違い、5）学習目的によるMTの使用方法の違い、6）自律学習支援ツールとしての有効性、7）MT翻訳と剽窃との関わりについて、Webアンケートにより意識調査を行った。その結果、主に以下の意識が学生たちの間で共有されていることが判明した。MTの使用が英語表現力の向上に必ずしも有益とは限らないと考えている。MTを部分的に使用することや自力で翻訳した文の確認にMTを使用するのが有用で、訳出の正しさを見極める能力を高く評価している。翻訳という母語を介した外国語学習の方法には賛否両論ある。英語の熟達度がMTの使用方法に影響を与えると認識している。英語の学習目的によってMTの使用方法が異なると考えている。MTは自律的学習支援ツールとしての有効性はある反面、学習の機会を逸する危険性も孕んでいると捉えている。MTを使用した課題の提出が剽窃に当たるかは、状況を考慮して判断すべきと考えている。以上から、MTの使用方法には、熟達度、学習目的、依存度などが関わっている可能性があり、MTの使用を最適化するためには、個々のユーザーの使用目的等を考慮することが重要であると結論づけられる。ただし、本研究は意識調査に基づいた考察なので、MTの使用の実際の効果の測定などによる検証が必要である。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | The extent to which machine translation (MT) can support autonomous foreign language learning is a significant theme in contemporary foreign language education research. To consider the development of foreign language learning and education incorporating MT, it is necessary to clarify how learners understand the advantages and disadvantages of MT and how they use it. This study investigates the relationship between the use of MT and English learning (acquisition) and its impact on English proficiency among first-year university students. Specifically, the study examines 1) concerns about the use of MT, 2) effective utilization of MT, 3) the relationship between translation and foreign language acquisition, 4) the relationship between foreign language proficiency and MT usage, 5) differences in MT usage according to learning objectives, 6) the usefulness of MT as an autonomous learning support tool, and 7) the relationship between MT translation and plagiarism. The results revealed the following: 1) There are concerns that the use of MT may lead to a decline in English proficiency. Some students also feel that the use of MT is not necessarily beneficial for improving English expression. 2) Many students highly value the ability to partially utilize MT, to confirm translations on their own, and to discern the correctness of translations. 3) The majority of students feel that translation, a foreign language learning method that involves the mother tongue, hinders the acquisition of natural English. 4) Students recognize that English proficiency affects the way MT is used. 5) Students perceive that the way MT is used varies depending on the purpose of learning English. 6) Regarding the usefulness of MT as an autonomous learning support tool, students perceive that while MT has the potential to be a convenient autonomous learning support tool due to its versatility, it also carries the risk of missing learning opportunities. 7) There is a divided opinion on whether submitting assignments using MT constitutes plagiarism. These results suggest that the use of MT may have complex impacts on English learning. Therefore, for effective utilization of MT, many factors such as proficiency, learning objectives, usage, and dependence are intricately involved, and it is important to consider the individual user’s English learning objectives to optimize the use of MT. Future tasks include further detailed investigation of these factors. | |||||
