The unit is to foster students’ political opinions for the local history where they were born and live. When surveying a history from the education of their native places to the education of near regions, we come to realize that the regions have been thought of as places to be proud of by studying people’ s attitudes endeavoring to develop their regions and fighting injustice against their rulers. However, taking on another view, it can be said that the dark side of a regional history has been ignored everywhere. I think the real facts of history must lie in these dark sides. By including them, the education of local history should be linked between the present and the past times. Here in this point, I claim that there are a lot of possibilities fostering students’ political opinions. For this aim, I have developed a unit in the textbook of history education at junior high school, which I will show in this paper. The material of this unit is a scandal about the politics by leading profits and the strife of politics of the political parties during the latter half of the Meiji Period.
