Satoyama is a landscape, which is composed of secondary vegetation in foothills adjacent to agricultural flatlands. Simple data set by easy methods of tree census in a secondary forest presented various learning contents for species diversity and regulating services of ecosystem. The fieldwork in the area of 20m X 20m quadrat was suitable for school education: The quantity of work for the tree census was realized in the learning and the results were consistent with those in larger area. The basic analyses of community structure were also feasible in the learning, however, the calculations of carbon dioxide retention seemed to be difficult for junior high school students.
