PIU is an unhealthy attachment to Internet-based technologies, and also termed Internet addiction, Internet abuse, and Internet dependency. Because PIU is similar to gambling and substance addiction and has various negative psychological effects such as depression, loneliness, anxiety, low self-esteem, and social skill deficit, it is important educational issues. Thus, the purpose of this paper was to review existing research on PIU. Study trends on problematic online game use (POGU) and its relationship with competitiveness and hostility along with theoretical background are also reviewed.
