When weekly applications of 140ppm or 280ppm nitrogen started from September 9,1996,leaf growth was promoted considerably, and spiking was inhibited slightly. In subsequent experiment, plants were transferred from Flower Retarding Room to Flower Induction Room with or without nitrogen applications. Spiking was recognized visually 4 or 5 weeks after transfer to Flower Induction Room without nitrogen applications. However, spiking was inhibited perfectly by continuous weekly 280ppm nitrogen application and/or by 280ppm nitrogen application of 6 weeks in Flower Retarding Room and then continuous application in Flower Induction Room.
