This purpose of this study was to investigate adaptive responses of different compartments in the rat MG muscle during one or three weeks of cast-immobilization. Cross sectional area （CSA） of each typed fiber in both compartments were determined. One week after cast-immobilization, CSA of each typed muscle fiber decreased greater in the proximal region than in the distal region.
