| 内容記述 | The present study investigated the differential effects of positive versus negative expectancy upon person memory. Twenty four graduates and undergraduates participated in the experiment. They were asked to form a personality impression of a target person based on a list of 20 behavioral descriptions. Before being presented with the list, subjects were given trait information about the target. In the positive expectancy condition, subjects were told that a person was friendly, while in the negative expectancy condition, they were told that he was unfriendly. No information was given in the control condition. All the subjects were asked to rate the pleasantness of each behavioral item and were administered an incidental recall test. As a result, pleasant items were recalled better both in the positive and negative expectancy conditions. The results were discussed in relation with the Pollyanna Hypothesis. | |||||
