内容記述 | It has been observed that second language (L2) learners of English including Japanese learners of English (JLEs) make overpassivisation errors to unaccusative verbs. In order to explain the phenomenon, so far, four factors causing the overpassivisation have been suggested: animacy of subject, existence of a conceptualizable agent, degree of verb telicity, and existence of a transitive counterpart for the equivalent verb of learners’ native language (L1). However, there have been few studies that compared these factors, so it is unclear which factor is the most influential on the overpassivisation of the four. Our previous research, Okamura and Shirahata (to appear), which compared the three factors, the animacy of subject, the existence of a conceptualizable agent, and the degree of verb telicity, found that the animacy of subject is the most influential factor among the three, and the existence of a conceptualizable agent is the second, but the degree of verb telicity hardly influences the overpassivisation. Based on these findings, the present study compares the influence of the existence of a transitive counterpart for the L1 equivalent verb with that of the animacy of subject, by conducting an experiment with JLEs. As a result, the animacy of subjects is a stronger factor than the existence of a transitive counterpart for the L1 equivalent verb. We will discuss plausible reasons. | |||||||
