| 内容記述 | Usagi-ana Cave is a small vertical cave which opens on the northeastern part of the Hirao-dai Karst Plateau. Reddish brown mud exposed near the bottom of the cave yields mammalian remains. The mud was washed by using a fine-mesh screen to collect the remains. A part of the remains obtained is dated as 7,092±46 yBP by AMS radiocarbon method, which indicates that the age of the remains is assignable to the early Holocene. Our taxonomic study on the remains has revealed that they contain at least seven species of land mammals, all of which are extant species now inhabiting lowlands and low mountains of Kyushu. This indicates that the mammalian fauna of the early Holocene was the same as that of present Kyushu, and was of temperate forest type. The assemblage of the remains from Usagi-ana Cave is compared with the Late Pleistocene assemblages of Seiryu-kutsu and Fudo-do Caves on the same plateau as well as the two early Holocene assemblages in western Honshu. The comparisons result in recognizing the faunal change from the Late Pleistocene to Holocene in northern Kyushu, and the faunal characteristics during the early Holocene in western Japan. | |||||
